Press Announcement

21 February, 2011 3:00 p.m.

Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival

The IFPI Hong Kong Group is pleased to announce that after months of preparation, the music mega event entitled Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival (HKAMF), the most ambitious project ever in promoting public awareness in music by bringing in music players across the Asian Region, will be held 23rd March, 2011 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The HKAMF is about sharing views experience and appreciation of music players coming together from our region on business models on recording industry; exploring ways to identify and to promote new stars that can traverse regional markets. This is of particular relevance when the internet and online models have provided the convenience but hardly a driver to achieve mega hits, mega stars and mega sales. HKAMF is about joining producers, concert promoters, artist management, media, song writers, label and investors together to define what it takes for a music performer to be the next super nova for the region.

After having viewed the performance of the most successful song contest models in this region, HKAMF invited recording artists, one from each of the 7 countries/territories, namely (list by alphabetical orders) the Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the host city Hong Kong, to compete for the Super Nova title in a friendly singing contest. The participant is selected by and recommended from the recording industry of his/her own country/territory. To enhance audience attention in all 7 countries/territories, a super artist from each country/territory is invited to showcase his/her excellent music performance, and to show support for his/her own country contestant. The event is going to be produced as a TV show that will be broadcasted all over the 7 countries/territories by television and radio media partners. The event will also showcase Hong Kong’s quality concert production skills.

HKAMF will also host a music forum entitled “Music in One Asia” calling music celebrities and experts from the participating countries/territories to share their experience and expertise in exploring the way forward for our industry on this internet online driven music world that has yet to find a workable and ultimately a winning model given the current economic and digital copyright protection regimes worldwide.

IFPI Hong Kong will not be able to organize HKAMF without the support and encouragement from Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Hong Kong SAR Government and the unfailing collaboration with Hong Kong’s recording industry’s long term partner, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. As this is a regional event, IFPI Hong Kong Group would like to express its gratitude towards and thank to many overseas local industry organizations, labels, artist management, media partners, music celebrities by recommending and bringing in seasoned and distinguished persons from their local music industry as speakers and adjudicators. Undoubtedly, this event will bring our sister industry associations in the region namely RIAJ, RIM RIS , RIT and KAPP closer together than ever before. Last but not least, IFPI Hong Kong Group also wishes to thank the media partner from the seven participating countries/territories.

Not only the participants but also the local music lovers have now keyed up for this regional music contest. What is better than to share this exciting live experience with Hong Kong audience; HKAMF has managed to allocate about over half of the audience capacity as free tickets to the Hong Kong public through online registration. Commencing from the 23rd February, 2011 for 2 weeks while tickets last; each person is allowed to register on-line at www.hkamf.org and 2 tickets will be issued to each successful registrant.

HKAMF is about building a higher level of cooperation among creative cultural music industry in the region to enhance music creativity and its commercialization.
