The results of the IFPI HONG KONG Top Sales Music Awards
IFPI Hong Kong Group had been the leader in industry awards and introduced the first Gold Disc Presentation back in 1977. The current format of Top Sales Presentation started in the year 2000.
Perhaps this may be the year where online music came into focus. IFPI Hong Kong Group took the opportunity to highlight the result of the first industry wide Digital Music Awards presented at Hong Kong Music Fair 2008. This award presentation was a joint effort by the Hong Kong Group and the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH) with the support of nearly all major digital sales/commercial platforms in Hong Kong (PCCW, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Smartone, 3, CSL) who are pleased to submit the sales data to CASH to meet the deadlines. This enables a broad and accurate measurement of how digital music sales are performing in Hong Kong. The Award therefore opens to all kinds of music, language, origin and irrespective of membership, being paid for and logged during the calendar year of 2008. The Hong Kong Group is pleased to note that when young music fans do make the choice to pay for the music they like, over 90% of the music is of local music, 60% of the top tens goes to members of the IFPI Hong Kong Group.
